TENNIS TEST MATCH.

AUSTRALIA AND JAPAN.

FIRST DAY AT SYDNEY.

(Received February 18, 11.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 18. The third and deciding tennis test match between Australia and Japan was begun to-day at Sydney. Vivian McGratli played an exhibition match against Moon, whom he had defeated at Adelaide, and again 'won, 6—3, 6—4. In the test games the results were:— Singles: Satoh (Japan) defeated C. Sproule, 6—3, 3 —6, 6—3, (this was Sproule's first international game.) Crawford beat Nunoi (Japan), 6—l, 6—l; Ilarada (Japan) beat Hopman, 6—3,6 —3. Doubles: Crawford and Sproule beat Satoh and Nunoi, 6—4, 4—6, 7—5.

The scores were :—Australia : Two rubbers, five sets, 47 games. Japan: Two rubbers, five sets, 44 games. The contest will be continued to-morrow.
