NEW TENNIS COURTS.
RESERVE AT COX'S CREEK. Two hart! tenuis courts recently formed by the Auckland City Council on the Westmere side of the Cox's Creek Reservo were officially opened on Saturday afternoon by Mr. G. L. Taylor, chairman of Lhe l'ark.s Committee of the council. Mr. S. Cleal, president of tho newlyorganised West End Tennis Club, said the courts would be an asset to the district. Great assistance had been given by the city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, and Messrs. Taylor and J. Donald, and the club hoped that, the work could be extended in tlie near future. The benefit of the. No. 5 scheme of relief in carrying out the work was mentioned by Mr. Donald. It was hoped that it would soon be possible to extend the work and to provide a pavilion on the reserve. Mr. K. 15. Hardy, president of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, expressed the appreciation of the association for the excellent work which had been carried out in a number of parts of Auckland under the supervision of lhe city engineer. The colours of the club were presented by Mr. Cleal to' Mr. Taylor, who declared the courts officially open. The policy which had made the courts available was ono which the Parks Committee was willing to extend, but Mr. Taylor mentioned tho present difficulty of finance.
