SPRINGBOK CRICKETERS
RAIN AT MELBOURNE. NO PLAY AGAINST VICTORIA. (Received February 7. .">.5 p.m.l MELBOURNE, Feb. 7. The .South African cricketers were to have commenced a return match against Victoria to-day at Melbourne, bat rain prevented play. An inch of rain had fallen on Friday night and light showers fell on Saturday morning. The captains made several inspections of the wicket but decided at 3 p.m. not to start tiie game. The wicket had been covered and was in good order, but the ground near the pitch was very soft. Several old international players, however, were strongly of the opinion after inspecting the ground that play should have started by 3.30 p.m. An old test match player declared: ''Australia is developing into a race of lolly cricketers." The loss of yesterday's gate money is serious as the Hoard of Control is still about £ISCO short of its guarantee.
