MARKET FOR SHEEP.

CONSIGNMENTS TO WAIKATO. LARGE DRAFTS FROM GISBORNE. fnV TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] GISBORNE, Saturday. Sheep are still being sent from Gisborne to the the Waikato, but it does rot appear likely that many more mobs will be despatched in view of the strength of the local demand. In some instances, according to private advice received here, r<isborne sheep have sold well in the Waikato, particularly in the early stages. Some of the other sales, however, have not satisfied the vendors. Values at yesterday's Morrinsville sale, for instance, were not up (o expectations. With the exception of about 200 ewes which were sold at Stortford Lodge 011 Wednesday, 110 sheep have gone to Ilawke's Bay from Gisborne recently. Young ewes in this consignment realised lis 9d, and 5-year ewes, 8s 6rl. Several Gisborne sheep men arc considering the possibility of the Ilawke's Bay market, but 110 decision has been reached with regard to any large numbers. It is practically certain (hat nothing will be sent to Canterbury this season in view of the poor demand in that province. Farmers there have suggested that North Island stock should be prohibited from the South Island sales this season in view of the fact that many farmers there cannot dispose of their sheep at present. So far as Gisborne is concerned, however, it does not appear necessary to impose such a ban, for the low Canterbury values are in themselves sufficient prohibition.
