GOLD TREASURE WORKS WELL,

After the overnight showers the track at Epsom whs in good order yesterday morning, when the majority of the horses who will compete at the Auckland I rotting Club's meeting on February 20 and 22 were given useful tasks. Impressive work was done by Great Ballin, Bingen Crest and Gold Treasure. Bingen Crest (C. Smith) and Modern Light (F. J. Smith) left the mile unrl a-half post together, Great Ballin (M. Morrison) joining issue with a. quarter covered in 38s. Great. Ballin carried llicni along to the mile post in 2.23, where Bingen Crest was loafing. Onee in line for the finish Bingen Crcflt made a good dash to overhaul Great Ballin. the pair running the final half in 1 .•*«. Bingen Crest ran the mile and a-half in 3.2'J and Great Ballm's time for ]0 furlongs wna -.51. Worthy Cause (L. Laver) went away three lengths in front of Gold Treasure (A. J. ■Julian) for a mile and a half task. On reaching the mile in '2.25 Worthy Cause was eased up. and Gold Treasure rolling into liis work in fine style, wept on to complete the journey in 3.32, flic final half in 1.7. Gold Treasure is again displaying a glimpse of form. Explosion (W. Clifton), accompanied by Holly Boy (A. Allen), traversed two miles in J.I.S. They covered the mile and u-lialf in 3.38. and, trotting solidly and with something in reserve. Explosion ran the last half in LIU. Glandore. (A. McGarrv) finished a shade j belter than Kcwpie's Triumph (J. Geo) at ! flic end of two miles in 1.11',. Tainaroa (F. I Herring) went with them, but, on reaching ! the milo and a-half in IJowpic's j Triumph turned on the spc.ed, with | Glandore in pursuit. The roan did best at the end to register 1.8 for the half. Tainaroa, who battled on to the post, ran the distance iu 4.5(1. Double Task lor Dad's Hope. Dad's Hope (.Clifton) ran a milo under a strong pull in 2.2?. In a second task over a mile and a-quarter he registered 2.58, fho last half in 1,10. Dad's Hope worked keenly and could have dono much better. Mazda. (F. J. Smith), assisted by Charming Pronto (I. Morrison l. took '2.28 to run a mile". The mare tangled while running an extra quarter, which took her 40s. In a spcond task with Prince Etawah Charming Pronto registered 2.20 for a mile. Mattie Herbilwyn (R. Saunders) and Moko Girl (W. Dje) went away six seconds in front of Prince Etawah (R. A. Shepherd), but the first-named broke badly inside the first, furlong and was pulled up. Moko Girl trotted to the mile comfortably ill 2.33, where Prince Etawah had reduced the gap, and the trotter was ftill in front at, the post in 3.13. Prince Etawah covered the journey in 3.30. Mntfio Herbilwyn trotfod a couple of circuits usefully by herself, sprinting in good style over three furlongs in 51s. She then accompanied Margaret Wallace (E. G. Sandall) for seven furlongs of a mile und a-tialf task. Margaret Wallace reached the mile in 2.29. and. increasing the pace, ran the next half in J.lO, pacing smoothly. Great Fame (A. Newdick) vnnd Dan Direct (A. Fatten) were associated over a mile and a-half. Great Fame led for 11 furlongs, and Dan Direct then ran up fast to finish in front in 3.3'.), the final half showing 1.0. Oliver Thorpe in Form. Oliver Thorpe (Julian) and Nathaniel (W. Willetts) covered a mile and a-half at a 2.24 rate. Oliver Thorpe, who is in fine order, ran the Inst quarter at a solid clip nnd was staying on at the finish. Gaza. (J. Mahoney) had things all his own way while working a mile and a-half with Jersey Thorpe If.. Mahoney), who would not pace correctly. Under a good pull Gaza finished on his own in 3.39. Benefice (K. Morrison) was given strong work over two miles, faking the opening J section easily, but running tho last mile in 2.23. Auto Machine (A. Brown) was not, sent against the watch while negotiating four laps at a useful speed, but infused a lot of dash into a two-furlongs sprint in the run home. A few more solid runs will see Auto Machine ready fo race. Roi Grande (Newdick) trotted over four j circuits without any mistakes, covering the I last mile in 2.2", i Gold Dial iP. Morrison) was not bustled ! to run tlte last mile of a two-miles task | in 2.22, the opening mile having falten 8s ! longer. Cold Dial is inclined to loaf when j not in company and is better in a race. Gold Seam (L. McMahon) paced resolutely over a inile and a-half in 3.33. The first, mile took 2.25, and, when asked to go faster. Gold Seam responded well to run the closing half in I.S. Gold Jacket's Brother. ■T.
