OLYMPIC GAMES.
DOMINION REPRESENTATIVES. AUCKLAND BOXER'S SELECTION. Mr. J. H. Watts, secretary of the Northern Boxing Association, received advice from the New Zealand Boxing Council yesterday that R. Purdie, of Auckland, and A. Lowe, of Dunedin, had been selected as the council's nominees to accompany the athletic team which is to represent New Zealand at the Olympic Games at Los Angeles later in the present year. The council is also considering the nomination of 11. Thomas, of Wellington, but this boxer has to pass a further test before a definite decision is reached regarding him. Purdie holds the feather-weight championship of the Dominion. He won the bantam-weight title of South Auckland, Auckland and New Zealand in 1929, being awarded the trophy for the most scientific boxer at tlie first-mentioned tourney. The following year he won the feather-weight championships at the same three meetings, and added further to his laurels by being classed the most scientific, boxer at all three tournaments. Last season he was defeated on points by A. Hogg at the Auckland championships, but he was successful at the New Zealand meeting at Ashburton. Purdie's selection is a well-deserved one, and will be popular in Auckland, where he lias a largo following.
Thomas and Lowe are the respective holders of the New Zealand light-weight and welter-weight championships.
