CHARGES OF THEFT.
TRIAL OF TWO MEN. ONE GUILTY OF RECEIVING. On charges of stealing a porcelain bath, ft basin, taps and a gas stove from a house in Mount Albert, which was partially burned, Richard Thomas -Carroll, aged 33, a carter, and James McEwan, aged 33, labourer, were tried joinfjy in the Supreme Court yefetcrday before Mr. justice Smith. John Alexander Stevens' said he was passing the house on October 19 and saw accused placing a bath on a motortruck.
A dealer, Arthur Broady, gave evidence regarding the purchase of a stove by him from Carroll. • Witness said there was another man with Carroll who was not McEwan.
In a statement from the clock, Carroll said ho bought the stove from a hawker and later sold it to Broady. Tho jury found McEwan not guilty. A Verdict of guilty of receiving stolen property was returned in Carroll's case and ho w T as remanded for sentence.
