FRANKLIN COUNTY ROADS.
NEW METALLING SCHEMES. POLLOK-AWHITU ROUTE. [FROM OUR OWV CORRESPONDENT. 1 PUKEKOHE, Wednesday. Authority for the expenditure of a £IOOO subsidy for surfacing with shell the PollokAwhitu Road was received from the Public Works Department by the Franklin County Council at its meeting to-day. The chairman, Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P., preBi.led. ~ It was explained that it was expected this season' to complete the shelling as far as the junction with the Awhitu Wharf lioad. The tender of Messrs. Bell and Company, Auckland, £469. was accepted for reforming and metalling three miles 13 chains of / the Paparimu-Mangatawhiri Road, giving access to the Moumoukai distiict. The engineer's estimate for the work was £657. Ten tenders were received'. ranging up to £lll3. The engineer, Mr. J. F. McArthur, said that four camps to accommodate unemployed frorp the city, who were to be given contracts quarrying and spawling road metal, had been erected in the county. There would be a party of eight men for each camp, and the contracts being arranged were as follows: —Puni Soldiers' Settlement, 1000 cubic yards; Waller's Road, Puni, 1000 yards; Pook's Road, Harrisville, 1000 yards; PaparataHappy Valley' Road, 1500 yards.
