TEST FOR PHAR LAP.
EARLY RACE ARRANGED, MANY ADMIRING VISITORS. "RED TERROR OF ANTIPODES:" By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright, (Received January 20, 10.50 p.m.) SAN BRUNO (California). Jan. 19. The New Zealand racehorse Phar Lap will probably compete in a test race at Tamporan, California, within the next diree weeks, according to a statement made by those handling the arrangements for his American visit. In that race J'har Lap will carry an impost of 9st 31b over a distance of 1£ miles, which is the Aguascalientes Handicap distance. It is expected that Phar Lap's competitors in the trial race will be Mr. John Marchbank's horse, Mopeca, and Plucky Play. 7 > The newspapers describe Phar Lap at " the red terror of the Antipodes." Admiring crowds are going daily to see Phar Lap, who retained a placid temperament throughout the long ocean voyage from New Zealand. Visitors are strangely disappointed in his amazing docility. Mr. John Marchbanks' stables/ where Phar Lap is quartered, are finely situated on rising ground and Phar Lap is making himself right at home. His trainer, Woodcock, remains in constant attendance. We in Australia do not know just how good Phar Lap is," said the trainer. He has done everything asked of him against the best competition. I can say without hesitation that he has never been extended. I do not think the hard dirt.' tracks here will affect him."
