WATERSIDERS AT PLAY.
SUCCESSFUL PICNIC HELD. OUTING AT REDWOOD PARK. Two special trains conveyed the 1400 people who attended the annual waterside workers' picnic afc Redwood Park, Swanson, yesterday. Conditions wern ideal and the gathering was most successful. Numerous competitions were conducted. Every child was given a bag of sweets and about 100 gallons of ice-cream were disposed of during the day. The first train to return at tjie conclusion of the picnic consisted of 20 carriages, which required two locomotives to draw them. The second train comprised 10 carriages. In the morning the trains had been each of 15 carriages. Results of the principal events are as follows: — Recitation.—Eulalie Purdon won a special prize of a guinea. Elocution: Nancy White, 1; Vera Pardon, 2: Adela Purdon, 3; Lorella Purdon, 4. Largest family: Mrs. Naey, with nine children. Waterside Workers' Races.—Maiden 100 yds: W. Williams, 1; R. Taylor, 2. Handicap, 100 yds: E. Carrup, 1; W. V. McLean, 2. Married men. 75yds: I. Donaldson, 1; F. Joy and A. McLean, dead heat, 2. Men over 40 years of age, -140 yds walk: J. Brien, 1; G. Taylor, 2.
