CRUELTY TO HORSE.
FINE OF £5 IMPOSED. [from our own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Wednesday. A fine of £5 for cruelly ill-treating a horse by working it, when it had sore shoulders was imposed on Sydney Holt, farmer, of Whatawhata, in the Magistrate's Court at Hamilton to-day. Holt pleaded guilty. For the prosecution, it was stated that defendant's horse was in a very bad condition and was unfit for harness work. Defendant said the horse had been an outlaw and was thin-skinned. He was obliged to work the horse in order to glean his crops. He was unable to procure another. Defendant said h© had not worked th« horse since the police had seen it.
