Recovery by West End. Bremner started slowly against. Armstrong in the first round, but from the 10th head he forged steadily to the front, the scores on the 18th reading 25—8 in his favour. An unexpected six then gave Roslyn a sporting chance, but the team managed to secure only a single and B tWO. Ramsay and Goodwin scored on terms /( tin til the" 12th head, when a five to Ram- '/ fay put him in front, 13—9. On the 19th head the scores read 17—14, and a six on the next placed the local rink in an unbeatable position. Dowland was two up against Sprosen at the end of the 17th head, but, then failed to his position. Hodge made an auspicious start against Gordon, but struck a bare patch from the sixth to the 14th_ head, Gordon adding a dozen points in the meantime. Hodge added only two further singles to his total. In the second round Hodge was agam beaten by the local combination, Sprosen s jink plaving good bowls to score a handsome win. Gordon continued in winning vein when he disposed of the St. Kilda rink. Bremner and Armstrong also proved successful. Thrills for Spectators. The third round saw a very fine game between Sprosen and Armstrong. The Linwood men at one stage were 13 up, but from the 13th to the 19th head struck a barren patch and the scores were level cn the 20th head and Linwood secured two on the final end. Ramsay proved no match for Wilson. The game between Bremner and Gordon provided the thriUs of the afternoon, the Aucklanders getting home by a single. Few expected that Gray would fall a victim' to Burgess, but he did and though the margin was small the Opawa rink s performance was meritorious. A further surprise was the defeat of Foster by Dick. Deare and his supporters again demonstrated their ability and the Fitzroy rink can account, themselves unfortunate in having been drawn against last year s champions. The third round clearly illustrated that Gray and Deare are going to be hard to dispose of. While it was generally anticipated that Hutchison woula prove too good for Ives, few were prepared for the big margin obtained by the visitors. They had command at every stage of the game. Moji;es easily accounted for Skoglund. Walker (Auckland) was very hard pressed by Calder and the issue was in doubt until the final head. Walker and Calder. The afternoon games were for the mostpart closely contested. Walker emerged with an unbeaten record and it appears thai; he has excellent prospects. Calder s rink is playing brilliantlyIn the pairs competitions the gam p s played to decide some of the remaining green winners resulted: —Martin, 24, v. Clanghton, 10: Coull, 1". v. Harkness, 12; Jae}-:, 26. v. Johnson. 21. Results of post sectional play were: First Round. —Coull, 20, v. Jack, 19; Martin, 22, v. Leach, 21. Second Round.—Martin, 23, v. Coull, 15. The standard of play in the pairs was very high,/ practically every competitor being a first-class exponent and master of a good variety of shots. Play was'interesting throughout and for the most pait the games were closely contested. As a result of their outstanding displays to-day Chambers and Martin are in high favour for the title.
