THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. WEAKENING IN GAS. Active trading, in which all sections of tho market shared, was recorded on tho Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Price movements were irregular, a weaker tendency developing in several prominent issues. Inquiry remained firm at late rates for Government loans. War Bonds, 1938, 4£. per cent., which had salo at £95 15s, showed a decline of 22s 6d on the price secured early in December. A fall of 2s 6d was registered in 1936 5£ per cent, bonds, which were released at £99 12s 6d. , . . Steady offers were maintained in the banks section, in which a few sellers made concessions, the principal of which was a release of New South Wales at £27 ss, a fall of 25s on tho level of the last sale recorded on December 11. Unions wero disposed of cum div. 3s 3d easier at £7 12s 9d, after which offers leceded 2s 6d to £7 10s. Business in the preference issue of Commercials of Australia at £6 6s 6d represented a rise of Is 6(1. The ordinary shares showed little movement, New Zealand* were wanted 3d firmer at 445, holders remaining steady at 44s 6d. In insurance South British were secured 3d cheaper at 53s 6d. Interest was little changed in loan and agency. The preference issue of New Zealand Guarantee Corporations was taken tip at 20s 3d, an advance of 3d. The market for Auckland Gas developed an erratic tendency after business took place in both issues at tho noon call 6d easier at 23s 6d and 17s respectively. Offers for ordinary shares were reinstated at 23s 6d, but for contributings wero lowered Is to 16s, which was the closing price. At, the final call buyers of ordinaries reduced their oltors 2s to 21s 6(1. Sellers held firmly at. 24s and 17s j(1 icspectively. Apart from a transaction in lvaiapoi Woollens unchanged at 6s, the remainder of the business was confined to mining. Waihis were done a pennv firmer at 16s 9d, which price was available for more. Grand Junctions moved up 5d in a deal at 4s. King Solomons were steady at 2s Id* and for Consolidated Goldfields Is 3d was paid, an advance of 3d, Mount Lyells fell back 3d with sale at 20s 9d. .
