SECOND DAY AT ELLERSLIE.

LESS FRAGILE FROCKING. COLOUR ON THE LAWNS. Owing to the weather not really appearing settled until the early afternoon, the lrocking at Ellcrslie yesterday was not, of of such a fragile character as on Saturday. Light and delicate materials gave way to textures of a heavier weave such as crepe de chines, heavy silks, even to light, woollen frocks, and to ensembles, some attractive instances of these showing themselves. Very little was to be seen of the long, sweeping draperies that were so distinctive of the previous day, nor was there such brightness and variety of colouring. The late arrivals had the advantage as they were better able to judge of the weather and to dress accordingly. Printed crepe de chine, plain and figured Shantung, heavy chuddah silk and soft satins were largely worn and although simply made, were well cut and attractive. Jn regard to colours, blue and pink Shantung made charming suits and were of much the same shade as the hydrangeas which were so lavishly used for decorative purposes on the lawns, at the base of the trees, and also in the different stands. Red, beige and mixed colours were also popular. If the colours in the frocks were not so bright on this occasion the flower-beds and the pohutukawas made up for it, the crimson flowers'of the latter looking magnificent, among the more soberly-clad oaks, planes, ash and willow trees.
