AGONISING DEATH.
MAN S FATAL SLIP. VAT OF SULPHURIC ACID. [vnOM OVIt OWN CORRESPONDENT.'] SYDNEY, Dec. 24. Agonising bums were* buffered by Charles Oaten, of Mayficld, who fell into a vat. of sulphuric acid at Lysaght's Newcastle works. It was with great difficulty that Mr. Oaten's rescue was effected and when he was eventually hauled out his clothes dropped in a mass from his body. He was taken to a hospital and died half an hour later. The sulphuric acid bath is used in connection with the galvanising plant and the man was working near the bath when he slipped and fell in. His mates immediately rushed to his rescue and were able to keep his head above the acid until he was lifted out and placed in a bath specially prepared to counteract the acid'ft - effect. '
