THIRD DAY'S EVENTS.

PROGRAMME FOR FRIDAY. DECLARATION OF WEIGHTS. THE RACING CLUB HANDICAP. Handicaps for tho third day, Friday, New Year's Day, are as follows

SILVERMTNE SCORES. LAST YEAR'S WIN REPEATED. History repeated itself when Silvermine scored in the Plunket Handicap, as he was successful in the same race last year. Speculation was spirited and in the best pool of the day Taurua was a. good favourite over Silvermine, who had a fair call over Chief Cook. Flying Prince showed out first from a good start, but Vali assumed command quickly to make the running along the back from Silvermine. Sir Mond; K arangapai. Green Ijinnet, Taurua and Chief C 00&. Knrangapai ran to the front after Koinsr about two furlongs, and he was the lender through the cutting from Vali, Sir Mond. Chief Cook. Green Linnet and Autumn Sun. Karangapai was still in charge entering tno straight from Silvermine. Vali. Green Linnet. Autumn Sun and Chief Cook, with Antique coming fast. Once into the straight Silvermine overhauled the lender and he finished on solidly to score by three-parts of a length from Vali. Antique was a similar distance away third and Autumn Sun was close up fourth. Then followed Green Linnet, Flyin? Prince. Chief Cook, Cntoma and Sir Mond. Silvermine represented better class than the others find he carried bis weight in fine stylo. Vnli ran one of his best, races and Antique demonstrated that he is coming back to form hv finishing very solidly.
