LICENCES TO EXTORT.
INQUIRIES IN CHRISTCHURCH. PRIMARY PRODUCE FIRMS. [BY TELECRAPII. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Canterbury exporters—chiefly those concerned with primary produce, wool, frozen meat, butter arid cheese—have already taken steps to obtain general licences under the. new export licences order, which comes in.to force on January 1. The order prohibits the exportation of any Roods, including bullion, whether the produce of New Zealand or not, except in accordance with the terms of the licence, whether a general licence, for firms like those exporting produce and other companies which arc exporting constantly; or a particular licence, for any firms which may have occasional need i.o send goorls overseas. Applicants so far have merely made inquiry at the Christehurch office of the Customs Department concerning the terms in which they must apply to, the secretary of Industries and Commerce. The order has been made with so little notice that no supply of requisite forms is ori hand, with the result that, firms desiring them have had to copy the schedule from the Gazette notice. There have been no applications for particular licences, but it, is expected that these will be made as need arises. Although local manufacturers do ship their goods overseas their shipments arc intermittent.
