FIRE IN CORNWALL.
HOTEL WING BUKNED.
GUESTS' NARROW ESCAPE. REWARD OF PATRIOTISM. CHRISTMAS IN ENGLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received December 28, 0.45 p.m.) LONDON. Dec. 27. A disastrous fire broke out early this morning in the St. Austell Bay Hotel. Cornwall. While a U nilon Jack flared defiance to the flames, which shone far over the Channel, 100 disconsolate guests faced the gloomy dawn watching the destruction of the cast wing of the building. Many of those who were thus dispossessed usually spend Christmas on the Riviera, but patriotism had prompted them to remain in England. Their reward was the destruction of everything but what, they stood up in. This was not much because many of the guests escaped in their night attire by sliding down water-pipes. Four lire brigades were soon engaged in fighting the flames amid dense smoke while the guests shivered on chairs or settees dragged out by the firemen. Tho hotel was erected in 1930 in record time. It will be restored without delay.
