MOTORISTS' ADVENTURE.

CAR SUBMERGED IN SEA.

MISHAP ON NINETY-MILE BEACH

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] WHANGAREI, Monday.

A party comprising Messrs. A. Anderson, of Okaihau, B; Crawford and T. W. Wakelin, of Whangarei, was motoring toward Scott's Point, on Ninety-mile Beach yesterday when their car broke down. The driver had been keeping near the water's edge to avoid loose, dry sand, and within five minutes of the mishap the water was up to the running boards. The occupants of the car commenced salvaging movable parts of the car, but the breakers of the incoming tide forced them to abandon the car.

One of the party walked seven miles to obtain assistance. When the tide had receded the car was dug out of the sand and towed to Kaitaia, a distance, of 60 miles.
