A HOGMANAY APPEAL.
Sir, —We have refrained from making a public appeal on behalf of the social service of New Lynn during Christmas or at other times. We do so now to all who recognise and understand the meaning; of hogmanay. We have done what wo could for the distressed without any distinction of class or creed except need, raising money by concerts, wrest, ling, football and field sports, etc., sun. plying men with new working boots and clothing at less than half cost. We have tried to be sell-supporting, in fact, compelled. The social service of Auckland has been appealed to through its secretary and chairman in vain. Meat, butter etc., sent to the city for wide distribu! tion, failed to reach New Lynn, ~\Yq shall be glad to accept " your generosity Help is urgently needed for necessitous families, and will lie wisely distributed Will you try to make it real, bright hogmanay by your gifts, for some noor soul. Ceo. Law-son, Mayor. W. InnfisoN'. W. P. Kankiv.
