HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. OVERCAST, WITH HEAVY RAIN. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. If. M. Vincent last evening:—An extensive westerly depression, at present centred in the south-west Tasman Sea, is moving eastward on to New Zealand. Expect cloudy to overcast weather conditions with rain in most districts, heavy in western areas and throughout the Waikato. Warm and humid conditions, becoming colder after about 12 hours, Thunder probable in the north and in places near the west coast. Northerly to north-westerly winds, moderate to strong, increasing to gale. Seas becoming rough to heavy generally. Local outlook :~ Overcast with heavy rain. Stormy weather is expected. Barometer, midnight, falling . 29.80 in. Midnight, Saturday .. .. 30.00 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 76deg.; Minimum, 55rieg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. Tho Government meteorologist reported last N evening as follows :—Tho cyclone referred to in Saturday's report is now advancing rapidly toward (he Dominion and has intensified. Indications are for freshening winds, reaching gale force in places, north-easterly north of New Plymouth and Castlepoint, elsewhere easterlies to southeasterlies, strong soutlicrlies becoming general during to-morrow. Seas becoming rough generally. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong winds to gale, northerly, backing to southerly in tho northern portion; easterly to southerly in tho southern portion; seas rough to heavy. Weather unsettled, cloudy and misty. There is prospect of a fairly general rain soon, with many heavy falls, especially in tho North Island and northern and eastern districts of tho South Island.
