OBITUARY.

MR, W. F. JONES. The death has occurred at Northcote of Mr. William Frederick Jones, at the ago of 83 years. He was born at Dublin, Ireland, and with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Jones, and sixbrothers and three sisters, migrated to New Zealand, arriving at Auckland in November, 1863, by the ship Helvellyn, of 1017 tons (Captain Bews), after a passago 3f 127 days from London. Tho late Mr. Jones was apprenticed to the firm of M essrs. Owen and Graham, wholesale drapers and importers, and afterwards was with Messrs. William McArthur and Company, wholesale drapers and Island traders, whose business premises were situated where those of Messrs. Smith and Caughev are now established. Mr. Jones subsequently earner! on business on his own account at Waiuku as a. general storekeeper, and on retiring lived for some timo at Papatoetoe before finally taking up residence at Northcote. He was a keen yachtsman, and in the old days owned tho 24ft. open sailing boats Dart and Hesperus, and sailed other boats in conjunction with his brothers, including the 24ft. centreboard Alert and Magic, and the Jessie Logan, a deck yacht of eight tons. Mr. Jones, whose wife predeceased him in 1908, is survived by one son, Mr. W. H. Jones, of Morrinsville, and three daughters, Mrs. W. Groves, of Morrinsville, Miss Viveen Jones, of Northcote, and Miss Kathleen Jones, of Devonport, and there are three grandchildren. There are also four brothers and a sister still living, Mr. F. A. Jones, of Northcote, Mr. E. Jones, of Sydney, Mr. A. H. Jones, of Ponsonby, Mr. A. C. Jones, of Northcote, and Miss Sarah Jones, of Northcote. MR, ANDREW MUNRO. [from ocr own correspondent.] WHANGAREI, Saturday. The death took place yesterday of Mr. Andrew Munro, of Onerahi, aged 77 years. Porn at Woolwich, England, Mr. Munro came to New Zealand with his parents 75 years ago in the sailing ship Carnatic, and settled at Parua Pay. He later took up farming and contracting. He married a daughter of the late Mr. Alexander McLeod, of Whangarei Heads, Mr. Munro was a cousin of the lato General Sir Charles Munro, and a nephew of Lieutenant-Colonel Andrew Munro, of the Royal Artillery. lie is survived by a widow. MRS. ELIZABETH BERG HAN. [by TELEGRAM. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] KAITAIA, Saturday. Mrs. Elizabeth Berghan, widow of the late Mr. James Berghan and daughter of the late Mr. William Frear, of Mangonui, died at Ahipara last night, aged 84 years. After their marriage in 1868 Mr. and Mrs. Berghan moved from Ma*;gonui to Ahipara and for nine years conducted a hotel there. In 1891 they removed to Kaitaia, where Mr. Berghan died in 1893'. Mrs. Berghan afterwards returned to Ahipara and was (ho proprietress of Seaview House and conducted a general storekeeping and gum-buying business. Sho is survived by six sons and four daughters. One son, Mr. J. N. Berghan was until recently chairman of the Mangonui County CounciL.
