WOMAN'S PARACHUTE RECORD.
DROP OF NEARLY FOUR MILES
A pretty 25-year-old brunette, Mile. Braescu, has won for Rumania the women's record for a parachute drop. On October 2, she made a descent of 6564 yards, or nearly three and threequarter miles. The previous record of 5839 yards was held by Miss Berniel Baiter, of Peterborough, New Jersey. A Rumanian officer, Lieutenant Papana, was Mile. Braescu's pilot. The machine climbed for 68 minutes, arctl then, when the barograph registered 6564 yards or 6000 metres, he gave her a signal to jump. Mile. Braescu took a glance at herself in a small mirror, smiled at Lieutenant Papana, and stepped off. She dropped like a stone for 30 yards before the parachute opened, and her pilot circled around her until she was 100 yards from the ground. The descent occupied 21 minutes.
