RAYNER'S TRENTHAM TEAM. [from our own correspondent.] WANGANUI, Saturday. There was considerable activity on the Wanganui tracks this morning when candidates for the Marton, Wellington and Waverley meetings were given fast work on No. 1 track. The tit-bit of the mornins was a flying half-mile before the breakfast interval by tlie two-year-old Midinette in 48s. She was ridden by her trainer. W. Rayner, and was close in to the rails all the way, with Impetuous (J. Rayner) to accompany her. Midinette appeared to have ft slight advantage at the start and ran the first two furlongs in 23 4-5s and the last two in 24 l-ss. She should make- a bold ehowing in the Wclleslej Stakes at Trentham next Saturday. Having the outside running and not being hunted along at the finish, Impetuous did well to record 48 4-ss, and the gallop should draw attention to her chances in the Shorts Handicap at Trentham. Rayner leaves for ellington on Tuesday with Impetuous, Midinette and Genesta, while Pedestal will race at Marton on Wednesday and then go on to Wellington. Pomp will not be seen out until the Feilding meeting at the end of November. If all goes well he will afterwards go on to Ellerslie for the summer meeting of the Auckland Racing Club. Pedestal finished half a length in front of Paratoo at the end of iour furlongs in 49 3-5». Knollmere may contest the Brewer Handicap at Waverley on Labour Day. This morning he moved easily in a work-out over three furlongs in 395. , Kowhatu, another Waverley candidate, was given a working l gallop over four furlongs, hitting out well. Genesta and the Weathervane two-year-old in Dwyer's stable were given useful exercise. . The track was faster after the breakfast interval. The maiden five-year-old gelding Cereal (Acre —Ceres), ridden by a lightweight,' led Arisus over five furlongs and finished a couple of lengths in front in 61 4-ss. It was a good effort on the part of Cereal, who is in the Farewell Handicap at Marton. Arisus was not bustled over the concluding stages and put up & 6atisfactory display in view of his Railway Handicap engagement at Marton. . Gold Gleam, another Marton Trial Plate candidate, finished in front of Just an Idea and Takahue at the end of five furlongs in 1.5. Gold Gleam had a light-weight in the saddle.' , With a light-weight up and securing a flying start Korokio took 1.3 25 to cover five furlongs, the fifst three in 35 2-ss. Korokio was not close in to the rails, so it was a good performance. She goes to Marton to contest the Tutaenui Hack Handicap. Two of Wanganui's candidates for the hurdle race are amiss, Waitaunaha having gone in the shoulder and Mocrangi being lame. NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE. TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP. WAIPA CLUB'S MEETING. REDUCTION OF THE STAKES. [from our own correspondent.] TE AWAMUTU. Saturday. The Waipa Racing Club held a special meeting last evening to prepare a programme for the annual race meeting in midDecember. It was realised that totalisator receipts are sure to be less than last year. 1 and accordingly it was decided to reduce the stake money to £735. Tho distance of the high-weight event was reduced to one mile. The following appointments were made; — Starter. Mr. A. Vincent; handicapper, Mr. F. J. McManemin; judge, Mr. li. B. Lualc, judicial committee, Messrs. A. S. Wallace. F. Quin. H. Weal, A. H. Storey and G. M. A. Ahier. . Salary and wage reductions were decided upon, in view of the lower cost of living and ! tho prevailing financial depression. Negotiations are proceeding for the pro vision of a five shillings totalisator at the meeting. AUTO MACHINE'S CONDITION. NOT WORKED ON SATURDAY. Auto Machine, heavily bandaged on the near foreleg, was not worked at Epsom on Saturday, but his owner-trainer, A, Brown, walked him .several times round the sand traok. Sine© his lost solid work-out on Thursday the leg has filled, aud is causing a good deal of anxiety. During tho last fortnight Auto Mafihino has done a lot of sound work and was showing signs of returning to form, and with Ngingongipgo was the early favourito for the Liverpool Handicap next Saturday.
