SCHOOL ATHLETES.
RACES AT VERMONT STREET. The Vermont Street- School's annual road race took place on Saturday afternoon ideal weather conditions, there being icompetitors. The senior course was over a distance of three miles. When halt a m ■ from the finish, G. Lonergan, off the r • minute mark, took ihe lead. and. ai.er magnificent run, came out a good_ winn in the very creditnble time of 2'2m o3s- - ' ond and third places were filled b>- TJ- -, l Laren and W. Dance respectively. The winner, in addition to annexing the _Her b Smith Trust Cup. to be . retained for one year, also secured possession of a nnniai cup presented by Mr. J. Ford. Keener still were the younger ath.cte. show their prowess as distance runnels two miles. It was not until more than 'i the distance had been covered that they. - gan to thin out.
