y PRACTICES ON SATURDAY. With the opening of the Auckland Crfcket Association's season but a week off many of the clubs took advantage of the fine weather on Saturday to get in some serious practice. Net practice was in full swing a t Eden Park. Victoria Park, the Domain and at North Shore. Owing to the football season being prolonged this year cricketerß have had little opportunity, to loosen up. and it is evident few will be in form for the first matches. GREEN LANE CLUB'S YEAR. That a very successful year had been experienced was shown by the report and balance-sheet presented at the annual meeting of the Greeu Lane Cricket Club. In welcoming those present the president. Mr. J. Hardley. made mention that four members of the club's senior grade team, E. Watts, C; Watts, F. Clark and A. Seccombe, had represented Auckland at hockey during the past year, and that the club was honoured in having such members. He also congratulated the senior grade team on winning the championship for two seasons in succession. A letter was received from G. R. Cox, of Sussex, the association's ex-coach. who played for Green Lane Club in 1929-1930, acknowledging receipt of a photo of the senior team and wishing the club every success. During the evening the following presentations were made by Mr. J. Elliott;—Bats for competition presented by Mr. Hardley, Mr. C. Watts, and Mr. L. Spooner, for the different grades: Mr. E. Watts, first grade; Mr. E. Cullum, second grade; Mr. C. Lund, third grade. The election of officers resulted:—Patron, Mr. W. P. Endean, M.P.; president, Mr. J. Hardley; vice-presiderlts, same as last year; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. W. Beeson; auditor. Mr. L. Spooner: club captain. Mr. E. Cullum; committee, Messrs. H. E. Watts, L. Spooner. F. Clark. G. Phillips, R. Lonergan, P. Ilbert; delegate to the Auckland City and Suburban Association. Mr. F. Clark: iunior management committee, Mr. E. Cullum; selectors. Messrs. A. W. Beeson, L. Spooner, and captain of senior team. riAKO ASSOCIATION. [from our own correspondent.] MATAMATA, Saturday. The cricket season was officially opened in Matamata on Saturday with a match between Matamata and Wardville, in the southern section of the Piako Association's competition. In the fir3t innings Matamata scored 6fi (Livingstone 14 not out, Martin 11) and Wnrdville 70 (T. Sheat 13. B. Sheat 13. Sykes 13). For Wardville J. Sheat took three wickets for 1G runs and J. Carroll three "or 11. For Matamata Cudby took seven for 28. The game will be concluded next Saturday.

CLUBS AT OPOTIKt. [from our own correspondent.] OPOTIKI, Saturday. A meeting: of delegates of Opotiki Cricket Clubs held last evening decided to form an Opotiki Association. The election of officers resulted:—President, Mr. C. D. Brown; vice-presidents, the Rev. N. F. Benham: hon. secretary, Mr. J. L. Jessop. These officers were appointed a Btib-com-mitteo to draw np rules. It was decided to apply to the Bay of Plenty Cricket Association for affiliation as a eub-association. Competitions are to commence on November 6. PLAY AT CHRISTCHURCH. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. The cricket championship competition was resumed yesterday in midsummer weather. West Christchurch. 228, lost to Riecarton, 405 for four wickets (Jacobs 83, Stringer 49, Roberts not out 172, Kiell 45); St. Albans, 243, lost to Old Collegians. 417 for eight wickets (Smythe 56, Lester 60, Dunster 117, Talbot not out 55). Lancaster Park, SS and 123 (Saunders 50), lost to Old Boys, 238 for nine wickets (Harris 74). East Christchurch, 237. lost 'o Sydenham, 242 for seven wickets (Riley 52, Young not out 56).
