MASONIC JUBILEE.
THE OPOTIKI LODGE. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OPOTIKI, Saturday. The 50th anniversary of the Opotiki Freemasons' Lodge, No. 1390, E.C., was celebrated this week in conjunction with the annual installation of officers. There was a large attendance, including representatives from other districts. The master-elect, Mr. A. J. McCallion, was installed as master of the lodge by Mr. C. H. Jenkins, D.D.G.M., and invested his officers. A tablet in memory of the founders of the lodge was unveiled by Mr. 11. 11. Hogg, and Mr. W. W. B. Parkinson unveiled another tablet inscribed with the names of members of the lodge who fell in the Great War. The sole surviving foundation member now residing in New Zealand, Mr. R. T. Abbot, received a founder's jewel, which was presented by Mr. 11. B. Wilson. The Opo'iki Lodge was formed in 1881 under the Grand Lodge of England, the warrant bearing the date July 12. There were 13 foundation members, the first master being Mr. R. S. Bush. The first Masonic hall was built in 1892, tcmpoiarv premises having beon leased up to that time. A fire destroyed the hall with all records and regalia in 1895, and the present ball was built in 1908.
