CABINET DIVIDED.

SPLIT ON ELECTION. liberal opposition. [THREAT TO WITHDRAW. gacDONALD PERSUADED. DEADLOCK REPORTED. Jjy Telee ra P' 1 — pre?B Association—Copyright. (Received. September 20. 11.15 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 29. Owing to tho attitude of the group of Jjberals headed by Sir Herbert Samuel fa question of the dissolution of Parliament next week remains in the balance. The Liberals are taking a firm stand against an election and make it clear that the present Liberal Ministers will leave the Government. That eventuality, combined with their attitude on tho tariff, lias put the. Cabinet in a quandary. The Daily Herald goes as far as to say an acute political crisis has arisen. The question of tho election was hotly discussed at the Cabinet meeting last evening. Four out of the 10 Ministers, Mr. Snowden. Lord Sankev, the Marquess of liesding and Sir Herbert Samuel, took np a decisive line against an election. The Cabinet broke up without coming to a decision. Mr. Mac Donald, when he sees tho King to day, must report a deadlock. Mr. Mac Donald will see tho King after luncheon. The Cabinet will meet at 4.30 p.m., and tho decision whether to hold B n election or to continue tho National Government may then be made. Thei Daily Express says it understands that the debate in the Cabinet resulted in Mr. Mac Donald changing his mind and joining the opponents of an election. The other members of the Cabinet not mentioned —and presumably urging an immediate election —are the four Conservatives, Mr, Baldwin, Sir Samuel Hoare, Mr. Chamberlain and Sir Philip CunliffcLister, and the fourth Labour member, Jfr. Thomas.
