WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

Kaihere.—A meeting of the Kaihere Institute was held last week and proved a most enjoyable one. A cooker l ? demonstration was given and was mnch appreciated. Hostesses for the day were Mrs. H. J. Buchanan and Mrs. L. McDenald. Matangi.—The monthly meeting of the Matangi Institute was held recently. The roll call. "The Household Task I Dislike Most, and Why," brought a ready response from the members. Discussion on various matters of business took place and the remits for the federation meeting in Auckland in October were put before the meeting. A dramatic sketch by Mrs. Barron, of the Foxton Institute, entitled "Under a Misapprehension." was read by the following:—Mesdames Trownson, Hodgson, Marychurch. Judd, Whewell, Trubshaw and Miss Whewell. The ladies in charge of tRe trading table were Mesdames Judd and Duff. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Marychurch, Baird, Burnett and Hicks. Netherton.—Mrs. J. Walker presided at the meeting of the Netherton Institute. Six new members were enrolled. Members expressed pleasure when a letter the president had received from the Carlisle Institute in Scotland was read and unanimously decided to link up with the Carslisle Institute. A play reading. "Under a Misapprehension," written for Home and Country by Mrs. Barron, of the Foxton Institute, was read by seven members and very much enjoyed by all present. Mrs. Keaney demonstrated crochet, slipper-making and Mrs. J. Morrison, senr., basket-weaving. Both demonstrators were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs. Walker and Miss Eppe# were the hostesses. Ngatea.—A meeting of the Ngatea Institute was held recently, when the subject. of decentralisation and various remits were discussed. -The delegate, Mrs. Mahoney, was instructed as to the voting on each subject. An interesting demonstration on maerame work was"'given by Mr. Ted Wtlkins, who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The hostesses.for the afternoon were Mesdames King, MrKershar, Mahoney, Mugridge and Olsen. Fukekohe.—At a meeting of the Pukefcohe Institute it was decided to affiliate with the Pan-Pacific Women's Association. Appreciative reference was made to the services to the Pukekohe Institute of Mrs. J. B. Taylor, whose resignation was received on account of her impending departure from the town. Mention was madp that Mrs. Taylor's efforts as its first secretary were largely responsible for putting the branch on a sound social and financial footing. A very interesting and amusing lecture -on "The Goddess of Fashion" was given by the Rev. J. Pattison. Songs were contributed by Mrs. Mahon and Mrs. Appleby gave a demonstration of passe partout work. Supper followed. A competition was won by Mrs. Harvey, with Mrs. Home second. The hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Hood and Hosking and Miss Harcourt.
