HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.
SQUALLY AND SHOWERY. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day -was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent Inst evening:—Tho intense depression, combined with a cyclonic storm centre, is crossing the Dominion. An area of high barometric pressure is moving across the Tasman Sea. Expect, unsettled, boisterous weather, wit.h heavy rain in most districts. Rivera flooded. Hail and thunder probable in places near the west coast, and snow on the higher levels in the south. Temperatures will become colder generally. North-westerly winds, strong to gale, backing by west f'o south. Seas rough to heavy, particularly on the west coast. Local outlook: Squally and showery. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.56 in. Midnight, Sunday .. .. 29.9f1in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight.)— Maximum, 68dng.; Minimum. 52<leg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —A cyclone has been centred to-day east of the North Island. Pressure is also low over southern Australia, while an anti-cyclone is situated over eastern Australia. Indications are for strong northerly winds to gales north of Cape Egmonfc and Napier, changing soon to southerly; elsewhere moderate, but increasing easterly to south-easterly. Seas heavy north of Cape Egmonfc and East Cape, elsewhere rough. Strong but decreasing southerly winds, veering to north-westerly in the southern portion of the Tasman Sea; seas rough in the northern portion and moderate in the southern. Weather nnset.tled, dull and misty, with general rain; heavy falls in the North Island, with some Hooding. An improvement, however, is probable to-morrow in most districts.
