TONGAN YOUTH'S CRIME.
SENTENCED TO DEATH. STABBING FATALITY IN FIJI. [from, our own correspondent. ] SUVA, Sept. 23. A young Tongan named Finiau Smith sentenced to death to-day for the murder of a Fijian named Tamesia on July 11 last. The youth was a member of a band calling themselves the'"Evening Stars/' all of whom were alleged to go ab °ut nightly armed with daggers, fn the course of angry recriminations be tween Tamesia and several of the lads accused was alleged to have rushed forward and stabbed the Fijian in the back. ■lhe, accused seemed staggered at the sentence. When asked if he had anything ■*° he said; "I am sorry I did it. I am very sorry." Ho murmured something about- "dnnk," and said again he *'as sorry. The Chief Justice said ® 3e assessors and he had made a recommendation to mercy, and that would be forwarded to the Government.
