EX-SERVICEMEN'S MEALS.

SLIGHT FALL IN NUMBER. A brighter tinge to the unemployment outlook is indicated by the fact that there has been a slight decline in the number of ex-servicemen being supplied with a mid-day meal by the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association. Since the scheme was instituted on July 7 by the association, assisted by the Ex-Servicewomen's Association, 19,000 meals have been provided. Until recently, an average of from 270 to 280 meals was provided daily, but during the past few days the number has dropped to about 250, which is taken as an indication that some of those assisted have found work. "The Hospital Board has treated us very well as regards meat," said Mr. E. H. Sharp, secretary of the association, yesterday. 'However, we are now buying vegetables, and donations of parsnips, carrots, onions and potatoes would be especially acceptable "
