HEAVY RAIN IN SYDNEY. OPENING OF CRICKET STOPPED. (Received September 27, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 27. Rain yesterday stopped all the local racing. The official opening of the cricket season had to lie abandoned. Tho women's sports were not held, but yachtsmen and footballers revelled in the spray and the mud.
TENNIS AT LOS ANGELES. PERRY IN SINGLES FINAL. (Received September 27. 5.5 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, Sept. 2G. In the Pacific and South-West tennis tournament at Los Angeles Vines defeated Van Ryn in the semi-finals, 6—o, 4—6, 5—7, 6 —4, 6—3, and Perry (Britain) defeated Lott, 6 —o, o—6,0 —6, 6-—4, 6—4. Vines, -R ill play Perry in the final tomorrow.
