HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. OVERCAST, WITH HEAVY RAIN. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:—The westerly depression has crossed the Dominion, and a secondary disturbance is now approaching from the west. A cyclone is apparently developing north-westward of New Zealand. Expect cloudy to overcast weather conditions, with rain generally, and heavy over the Auckland Province. Scattered thunderstorms probable in the north. Rivers rising. Easterly to north-easterly winds, moderate to strong, increasing strong to gale, and backing by north to west. Seas 'rough generally. Local outlook: Overcast, with heavy rain. Thunder probable. Mild temperatures. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 29.95 in. Midnight, Saturday .. .. 29.951n. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 62deg.; Minimum, 48deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —Saturdays disturbance passed rapidly eastward during the night, and improved conditions have been in evidence everywhere to-day, an anti-cvclone having advanced on to the Dominion. Another rather intense depression is, however, moving over the Tasman Sea. Indications arc for northerly winds, freshening and reaching galo force at places. Seas becoming rough south of Capo Egmonfc and Castlepoint, elsewhere moderate. Strong north-easteily to northerly winds to gales, later backing to southerlies in the eastern Tasman Sea, with rough seas. The weather will rapidly become unsettled in western districts from Taranaki southward and in the far north and south, with rain setting in. Fine and mild at first in the eastern provinces, but an unfavourable change may be expected generally ounng to-morrow, with fairly widespread rain. RAINFALL RECORD.
