INTEREST RATES.
Sir, —The Prime Minister's adverse reply to the Taranaki Power Board's request for a compulsory reduction in interest deals a final blow to (he hopes of hardpressed primary producers. Mr. Forbes says any interference with interest rates might drive capital out of the country, but he omits to tell us whence it would fly. Not to Australia, surely, where a maximum of 5 per cent, is under discussion, or to America, j&where long-dated loans are being made at 3 per cent. Europe is not attractive; there finances aro in tho melting-pot. Where thou '/ J. G. Browne.
