WEEK-END ATTRACTIONS.

IMPORTANT SPORTING EVENTS RACES AT AVONDALE. Important fixtures in many branches of sport will bo held to-day. The Avondale Jockey Club's Spring Meeting will be opened oji (he club's course to-day and will be concluded on Monday. Six matches will bo played in tho senior grade Rugby knock-out competition, v liich will commence to-day, while a representative League game between Auckland and Northland will commence at, ('arlaw Park at 3 p.m. Association fool ball fixtures include the semi-finals of I lie Falcon Cup contest, in which Y.M.C.A. meets North Shore at Blandford Park at 1.30 p.m., and Tramurewa plays Thistle on tho same ground at 3 p.m., and the senior cup final in the reservo grade between Tramurewa and Thistle at Onehunga at 3 p.m. Tho principal match in senior grade men's hockey is the final for tho Devonport Shield contest between Somerville and University, which will start at the Western Springs Stadium at 3.5 p.m. In ladies' hockey three senior grade matches will be decided.

Many of tiic gcilf clubs in and near Auckland will commence or continue their chainpionship series t.his afternoon. The first round of the club championship, the qualifying round of the junior championship, and the first round of the intermediate championship will bo played hy members of tho Auckland Club at Middlemore, while the Maungakiekie Club will play the second round of tho championship and a bogey match. There will be an open tournament at Glendovvie, and the sixth round of the Tyler Memorial Cup at Akarana. Tho finals of both junior and senior championships will ho decided at Pupuko, and the second championship round will be held at Devonport. Junior and senior championship series will bo continued at I'apakura. Two cycling clubs will hold races this afternoon. Tho Manukau Amateur Club will hold a senior event of 15 miles for tho Cotter Cup, and a junior race of 10 miles, while the Auckland Club has arranged a 20J* miles race. Enjoyable entertainment is offered at tho various picture theatres in the city and suburbs this afternoon and this evening, whilo dancing will bo held at the cabarets this evening. An additional attraction will bo tho concert by Margherita Zelanda, tho New Zealand singer, in tho Town Hall concert chamber this evening.
