MAN MENACED BY FLAMES. LEG HELD FAST BY LOGS. A dramatic story comes from Nulla Creek, near Tamworth, New South Wales, A man, imprisoned between two logs, watched death approaching in the form of a scrub fire he had himself started, and he was rescued when the flames had almost reached the logs. Mr. George Fund, a settler, had been burning off the light scrub and dry grass on a steep' hillside above the creek. He stood on a log watching the fire, when the log commenced to roll with him. He jumped downhill to another log, from which he slipped, landing astride it with one foot dangling in the water. Before he could move away the other log rolled down against his leg. They soon found him, but were unable to move the heavy log, which held his leg against the other log, causing him great pain.
