HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. I STORMY, WITH HEAVY RAIN. The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— Ihe intense westerly storm system, at present centred on the south-west Tasman Sea is moving on to the Dominion. Expect cloudy to overcast weather conditions, with rain following generally, heavy in western areas. Northwesterly winds, moderate- to strong, freshening, ar d increasing strong to gale. Condition,i are likely to become very boisterous. Rough seas on the west coast, particularly southward from Cape" Egmont, and rough in the Bay of Plenty. Local outlook: Stormy, with heavy rain Milder temperatures. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 29,951n. Midnight, Thursday .. .. 30.0Qin. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum. SOdeg.- Minimum. 46deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. * The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —A rather deep depression ot the westerly type is. moving on to the Dominion, while an anti-cyclone is still situated to the north. Indications are , for moderate to strong north-westerly to westerly winds, increasing to gale force in places, backing to south-westerly soon in the south and generally within the next 24 hours. Seas rough soutii of Cape Egmont and offshore south of Castlepointj moderate elsewhere. Strong westerly winds to gales, backing to south-westerly, with rough seas in the eastern Tasman bea. ; The weather will be unsettled and squally in ail western districts and in Otago, with heaw rain in places from Taranaki southward". Fair and mild at first in the eastern provinces, but unsettled conditions becoming general during the week-end, with colder temperatures. RAINFALL RECORD.
