CRUSHED BY LOGS.

MAORI MILLWORKER'B DEATH.

SON AN EYE-WITNESS.

FATALITY AT LAKE ROTOITI.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ROTORUA, Friday. With his body crushed between heavy logs, a middle-aged Maori millworker, Mr. P. Thomas, met his death when working on the shore of Lake Rotoiti, near Hongi's Track, ishortly after noon today. He was caught by a log which was being swung off a stack to a barge, and before the eyes of his horrified companions, including his son, who was also a member of the gang, suffered terrible injuries.

The unfortunate man was immediately extricated and taken across the lake by launch to the Mourea settlement in an endeavour to secure medical aid, but he died before half the distance had been covered.
