DEATHS ON STEAMERS.
PASSENGER BY SONOMA.
AMERICAN BUSINESS MAN. COLLAPSE ON LEAVING PORT. A through passenger on the Matson Line steamer Sonoma dropped dead about half an hour after the vessel left Auckland for Sydney last evening. He was Mr. John Kearns, aged 71, of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, a retired rubber manufacturer, who was connected with the Australian Dunlop Company for many years. He was with the company in Melbourne from 1901 until 1913, and was returning to Australia on a pleasure trip. Mr. Kearns' sudden death occurred just before the Sonoma passed Tiritiri Island. The Auckland agents, Henderson and Macfarlane, were communicated with immediately by radio. It is not known whether the body will be buried at sea or whether it will be taken to Sydney. DEATH ON MAKURA. CHRISTCHURCH PASSENGER. BODY BURIED AT SEA. (Received September 26, 12.35 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 25. The captain of the Makura, which is duo at Sydney to-morrow morning, has sent a wireless message saying a passenger, Mr. R. Brown, of Christchurch, died during the voyage. The body was buried at sea at 11.30 a.m. yesterday.
