HOUSE ROOF FALLS IN.
FAMILY'S LUCKY ESCAPE. Several tons of brickwork and lead, the debris of a roof collapse, crashed into a bedroom a few minutes after a mother and her three children had gone downstairs at Oldham. Lancashire, lately. The crash occurred at. the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Hartley. The mother, Mrs. Ruth Hartley, had taken her children, aged nine, three and two. downstairs for breakfast when the roof of the room in which they had been sleeping fell in. completely wrecking the apartment. Tiie roof of a greengrocer's lockup shop next door was smashed in by the debris. A neighbour, Mr. Ibomas Preston, fearing that Mrs. Hartley and her family were trapped, rushed to the front door to rescue them and was nearly struckby heavy coping stones us they toppled into the street. The family, however, escaped unhajrtned.
