BATH FOR MAMMOTH HORSE.
VILLAGERS' THREE DAYS' JOB,
A horse 314 loot in length and 228 eet high with a 100 foot tail recently hnd a good wash on the Hambleton Hill's near Thirsk.
Known fur and wide as the White Horse of Kilburn, this famous landmark was carved out in the hillside over 70 years ago, and the original scale plan made by a, local schoolmaster is still preserved in the village inn. Many legends are associated with the landmark, one being that a local farmer, determined to byiak in a. vicious mare or rido it to tho devil, raced her round tho plain before sho bolted over the cliff edge and fell into Gormiro Lake. Neither rider nor horse was ever seen again. Recently half a dozen villagers, armed with buckets and brushes, went scrambling up and down tho hillside for three days to give the horse its '- bath " and reform the outline which the heavy rains bad caused to " drip " in places.
