Interesting racing marked the opening of the Geraldine meeting An unfortunate accident occurred in the cup contest, when Straightcourse galloped on the Heels of Mount Boa and fell. Tnrngona, colli'ding with him. threw his rider, R. Coveny. who received a severe fall. He was still unconscious this evening, but was not thought to have received any serious injuries. Quinopal, having his first race over battens, won the hurdle race in convincing manner. He jumped faultlessly and ran away from Amorist after crossing the last fence In addition t.o possessing uiore than usefui speed he stays on well. Amorist, a strong favourite, was rushed to the front when half the Tonrney was covered, but did not jump as freely as usual and was well beaten a furlong from home. Paquito had charge after jumping two fences poorly, but crashed at the next. It is probable that he will not be further preaevered with as a hurdler after this meeting. Royal Amphora won the Ohapi Handicap from end to end and outclassed the others in the run home. Ho line always shown a rare turn of speed on the track, but has not done much racing. He was supported confidently to-day and his party received a very satisfactory imce. Royal Love and Compris had an exciting duel ovei the concluding stages of the cup race The former followed Inevitab e and Starshooter into tho straight. When he had the last two beaten Compris challenged, but Royal Love was able to hold him off. Compris lost a lot of ground when Straightcourse fell, otherwise he would probably have won Be is due to leave early next month for Melbourno. By winning the Squatters Handicap Kin Tin Tin recorded his first success since his present owner acquired him 15 months ago■ 110 cot a run on the rails and in the straight finished very strongly to beat \rrowmir. who has now reached the veteian st.ve but retains his pace. Limited was in f ront' from the barrier rise until s>oyds. from the post. Rational II was a .'one way back entering the straight, but finished with a telling run into fourth place. Solwit paid a surprising price to win tne Raukapuka Handicap, but the choice of horseman probably accounted for this. He was always one of the lenders and although seriously challenged in the run home hung on gamely to gain a narrow verdict. Dunraven gave another belated taste of his ability by burying the opposition for pace in the concluding event. Given no respite from the start by his rider. T. Green, he occupied second position on the rails until they turned for home. Then he took charge and, responding generously, was going away at the finish. Topere put up a creditable performance to gain second money as he had .como from a rear position. Convoy was a staunch favourite, hut after being close at_ tho home turn quickly drifted in the straisht. Martian Chief, slow to move off, was rushed up behind the leaders rounding the top turn and was left with no finishing run.
