THE SHINING CUCKOO.
Sir. —Having heard and seen the shining cuckoo for the fust time (September 21) this season, I wondered if the fact would be of interest to readers. Tile notes wero heard in the early morning, and we had a splendid view or the timid little songster sunning himself in the first rays of the sun. We heard him early last season also, though it would be a little later than this. Whether this is one of the migrants' or simply one that remained in New Zealand for the winter, I do not know. M. McMillan. Muriwai.
