RETAIL SUGAR PRICES.
HIGHER CHARGES FIXED., ( EFFECT OF INCREASED DUTY. Following the Colonial Sugar Refining Company's announcement of an increase of £4 18s a ton in the price of sugar, the Auckland Master Grocers' Association ha 3 drafted a new scale of retail charges, which it has recommended should he generally adopted by storekeepers in Auckland. The new prices are as follows, the old charges being given in parentheses:—lib., 3d (3d); 21b., 6d (sd); 31b., 9d (7d); 41b., lid (9d); 61b., Is 4d (Is ld) s 121b., 2s 7d (2s 2d); half-bag of 351b., 7s 6d (6s); bag of 701b., 14s 9d (lis 6d). These prices include delivery in the city and near suburbs, but in the outer areas an extra charge may be made for delivery. The new rates, which are directly due to the increase in customs duty imposed on July 30, were in force in a number of Auckland shops yesterday. There is no change in the prices of golden syrup and treacle. /
