ONEHUNGA BOROUGH.

VALUATIONS REDUCED. PROPERTIES OFFERED TO CROWN. According to advice received from the Valuer-General by the Onehunga Borough Council at its last meeting, about 20 pro-perty-owners, dissatisfied with the new valuations of their properties, offeredthem to tho Crown. Thereupon they received a further reduction in respect of the current year. The Mayor, Mr. E. Morton, said the properties concerned involved deductions in valuations totalling about £9OOO. The matter was referred the Legal and Finance Committee. ~ j, It was announced that the issue of an Order-in-Council. increasing the rate of interest to 5j per cent, on a loan of £4500 for footpath formation and similar purposes had been approved by the Local Government Loans Board, with the pro viso that the courffcil must first forwarf information that the loan had been placed A further amount of £BSOO had not ye* been sanctioned, and it was not possibli to proceed with the taking of a poll. It. would be necessary to submit the matter to the Loans Board again if the council proposed proceeding. The Treasury advised that a requisition had been issued requiring the council to carry out the drainage works in the Angle Street area at an estimated cost of £4850. It would not be necessary in this case to obtain the sanction of the Loan 3 Board. An Order-in-Council would ba necessary, and a request should be made* to the Treasury, accompanied by plans amf estimates.
