PAPATOETOE INTERESTS.
SITE FOR AN AIRPORT. MANGERE DISTRICI CLAIMS. The claims of the Mangere district as a suitablo location for a commercial airport for Auckland were advanced at a meeting of the Papatoetoe Chamber of Commerce last evening. The president, Air. S. J. E. Closey, said that representations had previously been made by the chamber urging tho Auckland City Council to consider tho advantages of having an airport in close proximity to tho railway and the main south road. Several members said it was desirable to have a site where the airport could link up with tho other means of transport. It was decided to communicate with the Auckland City Council and other local authorities in the district asking for consideration of Mangero as the most natural site for an airport. Mr. Closey reported that the proposal to create a motoring camping ground in the Mangero Domain had been well received arid it was hoped that it would be carried into effect this summer. In a discussion on the revision of fares by the Railways Board, Mr. W. J. Nicholson referred to certain anomalies in regard to weekly 12-1 rip tickets and other fares,. It was decided to ask the board for a schedule of fares and also for a statement of its intentions in regard to suburban traffic.
