STOCKS AND SHARES.

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. ■AUSTRALIAN ISSUES IMPROVE. Improved support for several prominent Australian industrial stocks was a notable feature on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. The day's transactions, however, were confined to New Zealand investments, for which lato rates were sustained. Inquiry was not fitrong for Government loans and offers for 4g per cent. War Bonds, 1938 and 1939, eased to £93 10s. Business was done in per cent. 1937 bonds and Inscribed Stock unaltered at £95. Requirements in bonds at, that price remained unsatisfied, but offers for Inscribed Slock were lowered 2s 6d on the previous day's level to £94 15s. Sellers remained in evidence in banks and movements were mainly unfavourable. Commercials of Australia and New Zealands were available at slightly easier levels. New South Wales were unsupported at the final call in spite of a selling quotation 7s 6d lower at £25 12s 6d. Unions were unavailingly quoted at £6 12s. In insurance New Zcalands were unchanged and South British were done again at 50s. In loan and agency there was a sharp forward move at the final call in Golds-brough-Morts, for which offers were lifted from 15s 6d at mid-day to 16s 3d. Holders did not quote. A similar trend appeared for British Tobaccos and Colonial Sugars, for both of which firmer support was forthcoming at the closo than at midday. There was a decided weakening in Moturoa offers being written down Is 6d to 2s 6d. Holders were prepared to accept 3d less at 4s 3d. The stronger tendency for Australian scrip was more marked in the jump in Mount Lyells, offers for which were advanced from 13s at mid-day to 14s 9d at the final call. Holders, who had previously asked 15s, lifted their price to 16s 3d. Waihis were steady and business was done unchanged at 15s lOd. Grand Junctions were taken a penny firmer at 3s 8.1, the sale having taken plauc late oil Monday.
