HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. SQUALLY AND SHOWERY. Tho following weatlicr forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. N. M. Vincent last evening:—The westerly depression has moved on to the Dominion, and is centred in the south. Expect squally, unsettled weather, with heavy showers in western areas. Hail and thunder probable in places near the west coast, and snow on the higher levels in the south. Westerly to south-westerly winds, strong to gale, backing temporarily to south. Rough seas on tho west coast, particularly southward from Cape Egmont. Local outlook : Squally, with heavy showers. Colder temperatures. A temporary improvement will follow. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.75iM. Midnight, Monday .. .. 29.80 in. Temperature in shade yesterday 'lo midnight)— Maximum, 60deg.; Minimum, 4Sdeg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A depression of moderate intensity crossed tJie Dominion during Monday night and a secondary depression of cyclonic form has since developed, lis centre being located to-day off the west coast of the South Island. Indications are for moderate, but freshening winds generally, reaching gale force in exposed positions; northerly to westerly north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoui'a, backing soon lo southerly; elsewhere south-easterly to southerly. Seas rather rough to rough. Strong southerly winds with rough seas in the eastern Tasmnn Sea. Weather unsettled, dull and misty, with fairly general rain, heavy in places in the Cook Strait area and some snow on ranges of the South Island, lemperalures becoming cold. RAINFALL RECORD.
