LIFE-SAVING CENTRE.
ANNUAL MEETING HELD. \ QUESTION OF YEARLY GRANT. The hope that in spite of the present financial stringency the Government would renew its annual grant to the New Zealand Council of the Royal Life Saving Society, whose work the Government dascribed as a national asset, was expressed by Eeveral delegates at the annual meeting of the Auckland centre _last evening. In appreciation of their services during the past season, an honorarium was granted to the secretary. Mr. F. Langley, and a presentation was made to the instructorexaminer, Mr. M. E. Champion. It was decided that a letter complimenting her on her bravery be sent to Miss Edna Thorpe, who rescued a boy from drowning at Devonport on Wednesday evening. It was also decided to bring Miss Thorpe's plucky action under the notice of the Royal Humane Society for suitable recognition. ••The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr. R. A. Laidlaw; president, the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison; vicepresidents, Hon. J. B. Donald. Dr. T. H. Pettit, and Messrs. J. W. Williamson. C. M. Littlejohn; and D. Rae; chairman. Mr. A. Dicker; hon. secretary-treasurer, Mr. P. Langley: chief hon. instructor and examiner, Mr. M. E. Champion; assistant hon. instructors and examiners, • Messrs. K. C. Reid. Rush. J. D, Foster. A. C.
